BAScontrol Toolset Upgrade Supports 36-Point Edge Controller

The BAScontrol Toolset has been updated to version 2.0.1.6 to fully support the BAScontrol-E36 controller, a 36-point edge controller with BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP client/server functionality. Running on a Linux platform, the BAScontrol-E36 offers advanced edge-connected capabilities, including a cloud connector for Azure IoT Central, a programmable dashboard using JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) nodes, email-based alarms and notifications, and integration with an online weather service.

The BAScontrol-E36 is the newest model in our BASautomation line of BACnet-compliant open controllers. These controllers use BACnet as the communications protocol and Sedona as a license-free function block programming language. The BASautomation line includes two series of controllers that address unitary control and Edge control. Each series is freely programmable using the BAScontrol Toolset over an Ethernet connection.

The BAScontrol Toolset is a free set of software tools developed by Contemporary Controls to configure, test, emulate, and archive controller operation on a Windows 10/11 PC. The Toolset includes:

  • BASemulator — a utility used to emulate full controller operation on a Windows PC.
  • Sedona Application Editor (SAE) — an editing tool used to create function block (component) wiresheet applications in the Sedona environment.
  • BASbackup — a project utility that stores/restores and replicates real or emulated controller settings and configurations as well as Sedona wiresheet applications.

All three programs are available as a single install on a Windows PC sharing a common Sedona bundle of kits and components—Component_Bundle_BASC_1.2.0. Along with a common web browser, the toolset is all that is needed to commission a unitary controller or an Edge controller.

Programming can be performed directly on the target controller or virtually using the BASemulator. This flexibility allows developers, systems integrators, and HVAC students to create wiresheet applications in a simulated environment without needing a physical controller. Users can also program offline, developing logic without requiring access to the actual site. In real-world scenarios, applications can be remotely developed, configured, and tested, then saved to a PC for later deployment to the intended controller at the job site or in a classroom or lab setting.
