Visit Us at the WEEC in Chicago

October 2011 - Contemporary Controls is very pleased to participate in the WORLD ENERGY ENGINEERING CONGRESS (WEEC) conference at Chicago's magnificent Navy Pier, taking place October 12-14, 2011. It is the one truly comprehensive forum where the economic and market forces, new technologies, regulatory developments and industry trends, all merge to shape the use of energy in future applications.

Contemporary Controls will be exhibiting and presenting on the topic "Consolidating Energy Data Into Your Building Automation System". Universally everyone agrees there is a need to use energy "more wisely". Some important goals are to conserve the use of the energy, and purchase it in a cost effective and timely manner. In order to better control energy the first step would be to understand how the energy is consumed. Contemporary Controls builds products that gather information on how energy is consumed.

The core product being presented at the WEEC is the BASremote. The BASremote allows Modbus serial, Modbus TCP, and pulse meter inputs (water, gas, electric, etc.) to all be consolidated in a single BASremote for communications to a BACnet/IP infrastructure. In addition to consolidating these various technologies the BASremote allows the data to be manipulated via the resident Sedona Framework engine that provides mathematical and logical capabilities.

In order to keep the installation time to a minimum the BASremote is supported with Device Profiles that allow the implementer to enable polling for the required variables without the need of programming. These profiles are developed by Contemporary Controls and are called M2BDP (Modbus to Bacnet Device Profiles). The M2BDP is a family of unique profiles developed for each manufactures' device requirements. These profiles exist for a variety of meter manufactures and other HVAC equipment. If a new profile is required Contemporary Controls will produce it, adding it to our library of profiles, and making it available to all users. As you can see in the picture below the profile contains all the information defined by the manufacturer. The implementer clicks on the BACnet objects that needs to be polled and then loads the file into the BASremote. The BACnet object type, instance number and units are all predefined for ease of installation.

At the WEEC we will also be presenting the BASrouter. It provides for connection of BACnet MS/TP devices up to the BACnet/IP infrastructure. By utilizing the BASremote and the BASrouter, Modbus and BACnet technologies can be consolidated into a BACnet/IP infrastructure.
